Events
With an established history of producing amazing compilation albums, it was only a matter of time before War Child moved into the live music arena and in 2006 we started off in style by putting on 3 major live gigs hosted by Feeder with special guest appearance from Jamelia and the Sugababes.
In 2007 War Child branched into supporting new music talent by launching Army of You at Koko in Camden. Showcasing some of the most exciting bands around such as The Noisettes, Late of the Pier, These New Puritans and Friendly Fires, Army of You of was repeated in 2008, this time at the Scala and again showcasing some very exciting new talent, Does It Offend You Yeah, Kid Harpoon and The Rumblestrips to name but a few. Plans are afoot for next year’s event so watch this space...
In November 2007 War Child hosted its biggest ever live event to date at Brixton Academy with a stellar line-up headlined by Keane that featured the likes of Lily Allen, Pet Shop Boys, the Magic Numbers and Guillemots. The gig, coupled with a warm-up date the night before in Manchester, compared by none other than local boy Peter Kay, raised an astonishing 120k for the charity and was aired on 4Music in the week that followed. A DVD of the gig is due to be released on September 30th so check it out!!
Over and above all our exciting live music events, War Child also hosts art exhibitions, film screenings and even gets involved with the odd festival.
Keep an eye on this space to see what we’re up to next...
