Similar to the NHS clap during the pandemic, #HelpUkraineSong will create the world’s biggest ever physical and digital flash mob across the UK during the build up to, and on the day of, Eurovision 2023 (Saturday 13 May 2023, Liverpool, England) by seeing people come together to perform ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ by The Beatles at 12.00 pm BST and donating to War Child, the only specialist charity for children affected by conflict.
Anyone can get involved in either the large-scale events taking place around the country or smaller scale community sing-a-longs, or from the comfort of your own sofa. In the run up to, and on the day of, Eurovision, people are invited to upload their version of the song to any social media channel with the hashtag #HelpUkraineSong - or simply sing, dance or mime along to it.
The idea is a self-initiated, pro-bono activation by creative experience company, Aurora, with the support of National Museums Liverpool, War Child, Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Information Policy and Hoshva PR & DGTL. The activation will show public solidarity with those affected by the war in Ukraine and encourage participants to raise funds for War Child so the charity can continue developing and deploying its life-saving work to protect, educate, and provide for the millions of children impacted by the ongoing war.
The movement is backed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Information Policy as well as Hoshva PR & DGTL a creative agency located in Kyiv who will be driving the campaign from within Ukraine. Ukraine Eurovision artists past and present, plus the Ukraine public, will be taking part either on the day or online. Globally a wave of major musicians, talent and ambassadors are giving it their backing and saying they will support, all to be revealed in the coming weeks.
Partner organisations such as museums, art galleries, businesses, brands, retailers, theatres, sports organisations and community groups are all getting on board, bringing in musicians, artists, dancers. They are planning physical flash mob moments which members of the public can get involved with at midday on Saturday 13 May 2023 .
Partner organisations include: Science Museum Group, Science & Industry Museum, National Science & Medium Museum, Royal Albert Memorial Museum, RAF Museum, National Portrait Gallery, Hull and Brighton City Councils.
