Keir Starmer must do everything he can to stop the bombs for good. Sign your name now.
Whilst a tentative temporary ceasefire is now in place, there is no guarantee that the world's deadliest war for children is over yet.
We are urging the UK Government to:
- Bring about an end to the war - for good. Temporary ceasefire is not enough.
- Protect UNRWA (The United Nations Relief and Works Agency). Children in Gaza will not receive the basic essentials they need for survival without them.
- Support War Child’s work. Over a million children in Gaza are estimated to need psychological support, while every child is currently without formal education, and 17,000 are estimated to be unaccompanied or separated from their families. War Child is the only charity solely dedicated to children in and post war.
Join us in calling on the UK Government to do everything they can to end the nightmare for Gaza’s children.
Petition Text to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer
Dear Prime Minister,
We are extremely relieved that a temporary ceasefire agreement came into effect on the 19th of January, and that detainees and hostages are now returning home.
For the 1.1 million traumatised children caught up in this catastrophic conflict in Gaza, stopping the violence is a crucial first step, but a temporary ceasefire does not guarantee that bombs won’t start killing and maiming children again if a permanent end to this war is not found.
This ceasefire also does not mean that children will immediately have food, medical care, psychological support, homes or other infrastructure vital to their lives and futures over the next few weeks, months and years.
A precarious temporary ceasefire is not enough. There must be no return to the death and destruction that has already broken so many young lives.
We urge you Prime Minister, to use your power and influence during this critical window to put children in Gaza first.
We ask you to:
- Bring about an end to the war - for good. Temporary ceasefire is not enough.
- Protect UNRWA (The United Nations Relief and Works Agency). Children in Gaza will not receive the basic essentials they need for survival without them.
- Support War Child’s work. Over a million children in Gaza are estimated to need psychological support, while every child is currently without formal education, and 17,000 are estimated to be unaccompanied or separated from their families. War Child is the only charity solely dedicated to children in and post war.
On February 4th, negotiations are due to start between the parties to this conflict. They must reach an agreement that leads to a permanent end to this war.
Children didn’t start this conflict, and they won’t have a seat at the negotiating table. It is imperative that the UK Government does all it can to ensure that children's rights and needs are prioritised, whatever that takes.
We believe that the assistance of the UK Government is crucial in what is the world's largest child mental health crisis for children.
War Child stands ready to work with you and the UK Government in this task.
Yours sincerely,
