War Child is committed to ensuring children are kept as safe as possible from the devastating impacts of war.
We engage with children, young people and their communities to understand, advocate and address their needs and concerns and include them meaningfully in the design and development of our programmes.
We adhere to the Core Humanitarian Standard to ensure quality and accountability to children is central to everything we do and engage with sector leaders to ensure we are using best practice and the most effective tools and approaches available to achieve the best outcomes for those we work with.
We strive to innovate and adapt as we learn through reflection and engagement with children, young people and their communities, particularly women and girls, people living with disabilities and especially vulnerable or marginalised groups. We aim to support and strengthen communities to ensure sustainable change long after our programmes have ended.
We ensure the highest level of safety and safeguarding through our work and put the interests of children and young people at the centre of everything we do.
We achieve this by:
- An integrated way of working which brings together our four thematic areas, so children receive a rounded and holistic approach.
- Adhering to sector frameworks and compliance around accountability and quality, namely the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) and Child Protection Minimum Standards (CPMS) as well as the International Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE).
- Having strict monitoring, evaluation and learning integrated throughout the project lifecycle, to drive learning and reflection that improves the quality and impact of our work.
- Operating safely through ensuring the safety and safeguarding of children and young people we work with.
- Advocating for the needs and concerns of those we work with but more importantly providing opportunities for those we work with to be heard.
