Svetlana is 35. Before the war she lived in a modern apartment with her husband and 13-year-old son in a city in Ukraine, not far from the Moldovan border.

Meet Alina. She was born in Ukraine and lived there her whole life. But now she lives in a Refugee Accommodation Centre in Moldova with her three children.

Wakil, aged 16, lives in Afghanistan with his family. As Wakil was on the verge of dropping out of school, he met War Child Case Management Workers who referred him to a project which provided cash assistance.

In celebration of the UN ratified ‘International Day of the Girl Child’, War Child have launched their Day of The Girl initiative - a creative campaign aimed at empowering girls and young women, to amplify their voices, address the challenges they face, and boldly promote their human rights.
